/wy-olld/: 1. Amazing, incredible 2. Acronym: Wilderness Instruction and Leadership Development
Camp Wild takes place at Pine Creek Ranch, located near Pine Creek rapid on the Salmon River of Idaho. When Lewis and Clark’s expedition arrived at Pine Creek Rapid, they decided that it looked too treacherous to navigate, and turned back to find another route to the Pacific Ocean and deemed it "The River of No Return."
Camp Wild is a wilderness leadership program jointly designed by the Journey Foundation and Brigham Young University’s Department of Recreation Management and Youth Leadership to positively impact the lives of youth through the use of challenging outdoor activities. Camp Wild is part of ongoing research on how to strengthen youth and families through challenging recreation. This year we are excited to welcome another partner to this program: BYU-Idaho.
Activities include white water rafting, wilderness trekking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and fly fishing as well as team building activities. Participants will also learn wilderness skills such as orienteering, fire making, shelter building, outdoor cooking and identifying all they see around them in the beautiful outdoors.
