Our staff members play a large role in our success. Our ratio of counselor to camper is set at an industry high. We feel that closer and more frequent the interaction between program participants and counselors creates an ideal teaching and learning situation. Journey Foundation recruits college students from partner universities to be members of their staff. A thorough application process ensures that each staff member is qualified and motivated to serve as an effective program counselor.

Prior to working in a Journey Foundation program, each counselor must first complete an extensive training course. This course trains counselors how to ensure participants health and safety during the camp's activities. Counselors also help with program development giving each camp its own unique personality. Equally important, our counselors are people who love to have fun and help our participants to have fun.

For those activities that require special training and expertise such as river rafting and ropes coursework, we hire staff members who have an extensive background in that area. All our high adventure instructors are qualified to conduct such activities.

The Journey Foundation's programs are not only an outreach to teens, but also provide extensive experience for college students who have chosen youth development or recreational therapy for their career. If you would be interested in learning more about how you can become a Journey counselor, applications are available online. Different positions must be filled every year. Just a reminder for those interested, serving as a counselor may fulfill internship requirements for graduation.
